Once it was Jewelltown

Please join us for a relaxed spin on the quiet backroads from Somerset to Star Prairie Wisconsin. Fantastic Fall colors await us on some truly great roads for cycling.

As of this posting, a high of 64 degrees is predicted with some sunshine.

An earlier start at 10:30 this time as the coffee shop closes at one pm on Sundays.

Jewelltown was the original name for Star Prairie. There is now a quaint little coffee shop in the old post office building (circa 1905) called the "Jewelltown Roastery" named in honor of that. Please check out the website jewelltownroastery.com for a bit of history and their menu that includes sandwiches and fresh bakery goods. And oh yes, some incredible coffee creations freshly roasted in-house! This will be our rest stop at the 24 mile mark.

This is Wisconsin of course, so the route is hilly, but only moderately so as rides go over there. With the possible exception of the Apple River Dam hill (Steep, but short) there is nothing too extreme. The ride is 43 miles long. There is an option to cut off 4 miles before the coffee stop (This includes the longest climb).

This country route is quite remote however, with very few options for refueling. So bring along whatever you may need.

This is a B-Ride and the main group will ride at that level. We will regroup where needed and no one will be dropped! Faster riders are certainly welcome and expected!

On the ride two weeks ago, our average speed was right at 14 mph. There were twelve riders, all of whom stayed together for the first few warm-up miles. We eventually split into two groups, six in the B-group and six who rode at a faster pace before meeting again at the coffee shop.

A concise cue sheet will be provided

The ride starts from Somerset Elementary School (635 Sunrise Drive, 54025). But the school is actually on Spartan Drive just west of the High School. This is 8.5 miles northeast of the new St. Croix Crossing Bridge via Hwy. 35/64. From the bridge, take Hwy 35/64 for 5.7 miles to Exit 6 (Business, Old Hwy. 64). Turn left towards Somerset for 2 miles. Turn right on Meadow Lane for 1/10 mile. Turn right on Somerset Lane for 3/10 mile. Turn right on Spartan Drive for 4/10 mile to Somerset Elementary on the right. (We'll park in the first lot near the road)

As for facilities, there is only a Satellite near the ride start. I would recommend you stop beforehand if need be.

Come along with us for some guaranteed fun!
