I did a similar route a week or so ago when a road was closed and we used the Gateway Trail for a few miles. The road by Withrow is open again, so we can go up Jamaca into Withrow, out the new pavement on Keller/Keystone and work our way back on a couple different roads. Ride starts at Lakewood Hills Park on Orchard Lane off White Bear Avenue just north of I-694.
Bathrooms and water available at the start. Other rest stop possibilities at the Mahtomedi High School Athletic Fields at 6.1 miles, Jamaca Avenue trailhead at 7.1 miles, City of Hugo Public Works at 16.8 miles and the Holiday station on Hwy 61 at 22.3 miles. We found out on the last ride that the Public Works facilities are pretty nice places for our rest stops and especially since portable toilets are starting to get scarce.
Route is loaded so please download, pin to your phone or print the “official” cue sheet. I’ll be riding at a B/C pace and probably average around 13ish mph at the end. Faster riders welcome to ride off ahead.
Typical rolling Washington County roads with a few gradual ups, short climbs and a few nice downs. Weather predictions look good, but a little cool. Looks like the temperature only goes up 2 degrees between 10 and 11 a.m., so I’m going to start at 10 a.m. to finish up a little sooner. If the weather forecast changes and rain or gusty winds, I may cancel so check the Forum, Ride Calendar or call or text me at 612-381-6711.
