Start from west side of Coon Rapids Dam - enjoy a ride with TCBC friends.
Your TCBC Leader, Mike, will be riding a Fat Bike with 4 inch wide studded tires, although will prefer tar roads and tar trails that are mostly plowed, however there may be short sections to connect that will be more stable on a wider tired bike.
Rest stop planned is Hans' Bakery, but first a quick stop at the Anoka Snow-a-Saurus (if not melted yet that is).
The route is posted and will get you through the course at any pace.
Although I prefer those that want to stay together at a B pace, then ride my pace and follow me as a B ride leader.

The Kinnickinnic trails are some of the best designed trails that I have Fat Biked on. The trail builders did a masterful job of following the contour lines along the ravines to make a very ‘flowy’ trail with easy switchback turns and mostly gentle hills. The groomed trail width is generally about 30 inches, so they are easy enough for beginning fat bikers to ride. With the exception of the parking lot access trail, all trails are singletrack and one-way. This is a Wisconsin State Park and will require a vehicle admission sticker. A day pass is $13 and the annual pass is $38. I recommend the annual pass.
Only Fat Bikes with at least 3.8-inch-wide tires are allowed. I have 3 routes available, an 11-mile route, which includes Green, Blue and Black rated trails. I also have a 8-mile Green and Blue route and a 3-mile Green route. Depending on the group, I would like to take everyone on the 3-mile Green loop to determine everyone comfort level on the singletrack before proceeding on the 8 or 11-mile routes. We will regroup at the trail intersections. I recommend using the Trailforks App on your smart phone to pinpoint your location on the map in case you get separated from the group.
After ride socializing with food and beverages will be at the Pitchfork Brewing Company.
Willow River State Park has some of the best winter groomed fat bike trails near the Twin Cities. This is a Wisconsin State Park and will require a vehicle admission sticker. A day pass is $13 and the annual pass is $38.
Only Fat Bikes with at least 3.8-inch-wide tires are allowed. The planned route will be 12 miles, which includes most of the groomed Fat Bike trails. There is also a 3-mile route that is much easier and flatter, for anyone wishing to do laps on a much easier route.
If anyone would rather cross-country ski, the ski trails look pretty amazing for both classic and skate skiing.
Indoor restrooms are available at the entrance station and vault toilets are available near the mountain bike trailhead.
For 2023, TCBC will be offering two New Ride Leader Training classes via two 2 1/2 hour Zoom sessions for each class.
This date, Tuesday, Feb. 21 is for Session A of Class I, and Session B of Class I is on Thursday, Feb. 23. Pre-registration is required and will open in mid-January, 2022.
In addition, all TCBC Ride Leaders are required to attend the TCBC Ride Leader Forum via Zoom on Tuesday, April 11.
To qualify, we ask that you be a current TCBC member who has been active with the club for at least one summer biking season and that you agree to follow the rules and guidelines of TCBC. Also, that you have a true desire to help make TCBC a welcoming organization that is focused on sharing the joys of bicycling with others and on promoting safe and responsible riding. Lastly, you need to be fully accessible through email and telephone.
Please note that our ride leader training is specifically designed for TCBC and is not in any way a general leadership course. Participants will learn about the structure and history of TCBC, its communication systems, its rules and guidelines, and how to schedule and lead fun and safe TCBC rides.
