Iron Range Cycling Day 1 - Route will take us from Gilbert to Virginia where we will cross the highest bicycle bridge in Minnesota. We will want to stop on the bridge to take in the views and take a group photo. From Virginia we will continue on the Mesabi Trail to Mount Iron where we can take a quick rest room break and enjoy more views of the mines. From there we will continue on the road which is Old Hwy 169 and work our way over to Buhl and take our break at mile 23 Short Stop Convenience Store. After the break we will take the Mesabi Trail back to Spirit Road where we will cross Hwy 169 and head south to Iron Junction and then back east where there is a final rest stop in West Eveleth before coming back into the Gilbert. Bring enough water and snacks for the road.
We will be parking on the backside of the outfield of a baseball park which is due west across the road from the campgrounds. Porta Potty available.
Dinner following at the Whistling Bird at 5:45PM for the first group of 12 and 6:00 PM for the second group of 12. Beverages can be enjoyed following the dinner at campsite A3. BYOB and lawn chair. Note: We camped Wednesday night and had only 1 mosquito. Unbelieveable!
Safe travels.
