Overnight Ride
Social Gathering Before/After

Bike and Bird at Trempealeau, WI.  This will be a very relaxed "C - Ride" with a lot of stops to look at birds.  Bring your binoculars, bird books, and get ready to enjoy some biking and birding along the trails.  Wisconsin requires a State Trail Pass which can be purchased at the trail head for $5 for a day pass or at any gas station if purchasing a year pass for $25.   https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/admission/trailpass  Please get reservations to stay the weekend.

Friday we will start at the Great River State Trail Head on Hiway 35 east in Trempealeau at 1 pm (Restrooms avail. but may be closed - will update this before ride). We will casually bike and bird toward Onalaska (27.6 Miles round trip) Surface is a hard scrabble. There is some elevation but not too much.

Saturday we will meet at 1st Street and Main Street at 10:00 am and will go up the hill toward the Perrot State Park parking lot, where we will stop for anyone needing to buy a State Trail Pass for the day. Then continue through the Park and out to turn onto the Great River State Trail through the refuge and back to Trempealeau. From the start of the ride to the Great River State Trail we will be casually bike and bird on the street.  we will stay single file and not bunch up too much when stopped and looking at birds. Once on the Great River State Trail it will be hard scrabble and in places tarred pavement, there is elevation on this route.

Once we turn off of the Great River Trail , it will be a dirt road to the parking lot. 6.2 miles from the start. At this point there are 2 options - Option 1 follow the tar road straight to the dock and then turn around and back track back to the start. Option 2 Take the refuge wildlife drive road which is a gravel road to the dock and continue to the refuge gravel road back to the parking lot where options started. Then backtrack back to the start. 17.8 miles for Option 2, less for Option 1. Mostly flat terrain, worst part is leaving Great River State Trail and on to Refuge Road there is a downhill to the parking lot where options start.

Sunday, we will start at the same place {Great River State Trail Head on Hiway 35 east in Trempealeau} we started on Friday but go toward Onalaska (27.6 Miles round trip).
