Join us as we take time to clean up trash along our section of the Midtown Greenway from Hiawatha Avenue to 27th Ave West.  We will gather at the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store parking lot at 2700 Minnehaha Ave, Minneapolis 55406.  We will start there at 5:30 pm and work until about 6:30 pm.  Wear long pants, closed toe shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty.  Trash bags and gloves supplied.  If you have a grabber or want to bring your own gloves that is encouraged. Afterwards,  join us for a beverage and bite to eat at a nearby establishment.  It's fun doing good sprucing up this valued Twin Cities trail and interacting with fellow TCBCers!

Route will be about 25 miles, I'm planning to ride a bike with 700x28mm tires, although bikes with even 700x23mm tires have ridden this route before without issue.

Rest stop will be about half-way at Robbinsdale McDonald's

Willl also go through Sochacki Park, which parallels Victory Memorial Drive.

While the route will get you the complete 25 mile route, please know that I do have ad hoc changes (conditions, closures, etc), so it's best if the group stays together and follows the leader at the rated pace.

Could also optionally attend the1:00 pm Tulips and Daffodils ride to double your day!

**Limited** Minneapolis Lakes, Rivers and Creeks

Due to difficulty navigating this route with the many unmarked trails I will consider this a mapless/no drop ride and I am limiting the ride to 12 riders, including the ride leader. Due to the history of 2-3 riders canceling or not showing up, I will allow 15 riders to register. When or if I get 15 registered riders, I will close registration and label the ride as full. So, if you really want to do this ride, register early before it closes!

This route goes around Minneapolis and will be almost entirely on bike trails through and around the parks surrounding Minneapolis, which will result in an almost car free riding experience. But, since most trails aren’t marked, navigating this route will be difficult without guidance from a GPS unit. The most effective means of navigating this route would be to follow the ride leader, who will be riding at a “B level” effort, or using audio queues from the RWGPS app on your phone. If you haven’t joined the TCBC Ride With GPS club account yet, you can use this form to request signup instructions.

There will be two planned rest stops. The first will be at the Theodore Wirth Trailhead at mile 14 for a quick restroom and water stop. The second will be at the Sea Salt Eatery at mile 29 which can be a longer stop for food and social time if desired. Otherwise, the social time can be at the end of the ride at the Dock and Paddle at the Como Lakeside Pavilion.

Park your car in the south Como Pavilion parking lot. Restrooms are available at the start. The ride briefing will be at the picnic table between the Pavilion and the waterfall.

I will have a limited supply of route maps or que sheets at the ride start, so please download the route onto your GPS bike computer, Ride With GPS app on your smart phone, or to print a map and cue sheet, click the GPS Route Link below, then click on More in the black box above the ride name, then Print Map & Cue PDF then Print Official

    Get me there
    Bald Eagle Lake Recreation Area
    5725 Hugo Rd.
    St. Paul, MN 55110

Lyle and I have done this route a few times. He’s not available Wednesday, but the winds are favorable, or more favorable than the last few days, so I’m going to take advantage and run out to Big Marine Park (yes, without Lyle).

Ride starts at Bald Eagle Recreation Area on Hugo Road, heads north and east for our rest stop at the park at 12 miles. We’ll see if the winds are lighter and really out of the NE which would be good for our trip back and give us a little tail wind.

Bathrooms may be open at Bald Eagle Rec Area or there is a portable toilet there by the boat launch. You’ll need to bring a snack for our rest stop at Big Marine Park. They do have vending machines there, but good to bring something to munch on. Hoping the bathrooms are open at Big Marine, but portable toilets there if not.

Route is attached so please download to a navigational device, pin to your phone or print a cue sheet. I won’t have any cue sheets. I plan to ride at a B/C pace and average somewhere in the 12.5-13 mph range at the end. Faster riders are welcome to grab the route and ride off ahead.

If rain, winds gusting over 15-20 mph in a different direction or anything else unpleasant, I may cancel the ride. We’ll be riding out in the country on open roads with no shelter from the wind. Route is rolling with a couple longer hills but no monster climbs.

Please check the Forum, Ride Calendar or don’t hesitate to call or text me at 612-381-6711 if any doubt about ride going. If you pre-register, I will also email you if any changes to route or anything you need to know.
